Secret Two: color="#008000">Give yourself credit for successes. color="#FF0000">
I'm going to be blunt here - most of us
are lacking in confidence in at least one area of our lives.
Personal example: I used to be terrified of computers. I was
convinced I'd never master one. Now look at me - I spend most
of my time working at my computer. I use word-processing
program and desktop publishing programs. I'm even producing
web pages from this computer! I glow with success. color="#FF00FF">How: I did what you must do
if you don't feel confident about something. I wrote down
things that I'd achieved in the past. I learned to ride a
bike, drive a car, pass exams, learned to swim - all sorts of
things. And some of these were linked to the computer
programming skill I wanted to acquire! You do the same -
you'll be surprised at the length of the list, and how much
confidence you'll gain from it. Remember:
if you've been successful before, you'll succeed again and
again.

Secret Three: color="#008000">Be a copycat of others' success. color="#FF0000">
We're not alone in our dreams - other
people have been there before us. And: if they've been there,
they can show us the way. Key
question: what made them successful? Idea:
study them, watch what they do, and how they do it. Talk to
them. Example: I
know someone who has got all of his jobs by networking. He's
brilliant at it. I've watched - and know the secret of his
success. He never asks anyone for a job; he just asks for
'advice'. Why: people
don't like being asked for something concrete like a job -
they feel embarrassed and pressured. color="#FF00FF">But: they love being asked
for advice and never refuse it - because it acknowledges
their wisdom, expertise and generosity. color="#FF00FF">Outcome: the conversation
often leads on to a job offer. So: see what other winners do,
and copy them.
Secret Four: color="#008000">Be relaxed. color="#FF0000">
Have you noticed that successful people
always seem to be relaxed? Ever wondered why? It's because
they know what they're doing, and where they're going - and
they have confidence in the outcome. Tense people don't
succeed. Case study: A bloke I knew was out of work and
desperate for money. He became an insurance salesman for a
few months - and never sold a single policy! color="#FF00FF">Why: he tried too hard, and
it showed. Clients didn't want to buy from someone who seemed
so desperate. They wanted to feel reassured by the quiet,
relaxed confidence that a successful person exudes. color="#FF00FF">Important: you can cultivate
that feeling of relaxation from the knowledge and confidence
that you're going to be successful. You too know what you
have to do, and where you want to go.
Secret Five: color="#008000">Accept problems. color="#FF0000">
Very few goals are achieved without some
problems arising along the way. It always amazes me how many
people don't seem to realise this basic fact - and give up as
they encounter that first difficulty. color="#FF00FF">Motto: anything worth
achieving takes effort to achieve.Note:
successful people - winners like you and me - always assume
that they'll come across problems, identify as many as they
can in advance and are ready to resolve (unforeseen
circumstances) any others they encounter. color="#FF00FF">Essential: acknowledging
potential problems gives you the confidence to deal with
them. Truth: to
the successful person, problems are simply part of the
process and are viewed as additional challenges to their
competence and commitment.
Secret Six: color="#008000">Talk yourself through difficulties. color="#FF0000">
Successful people have what I call
'stickability' - they know success doesn't come easily, and
they keep going come what may. Top
technique: one way of boosting your chances of
success is to talk yourself through the task in hand - just
like an air traffic controller talks down a pilot coming in
to land in foggy conditions. How:
this tactic recognises that the task is a tricky one,
requiring concentration and persistence - and it acknowledges
that you are capable of achieving it. Your confidence will
soar sky high? trust me.

learn it more than one way. color="#0000FF">
Secret Seven: color="#008000">Make a contract with yourself. color="#FF0000">
We're all familiar with contracts - once
you've signed one, you can't back out; you've got to see it
through. Helpful:
enter into a self-contract, undertaking to carry out each
step towards your goal and in return, giving yourself some
rewards for your achievements. Example:
if you're seeking a job, you might motivate yourself with a
contract to make five on-spec applications a week, in return
for a new CD after every twenty applications. Useful: a
self-contract helps to create a high level of commitment to
your overall goal.
href="http://www.secrets2success.com/special57150.html"> color="#0000FF">Confidence comes not from always being
right but from not fearing to be wrong. color="#0000FF">
Secret Eight: color="#008000">Visualise success. color="#FF0000">
'Creative visualisation' is the most
important secret of success. Definition:
it simply involves imagining what things will be like when
you have achieved your goal. Example:
a boat builder setting up the stem of his boat thinks about
the graceful finished craft gliding through the water, sees
himself hauling fish over the stern and feels the wind and
spray on his face. Important:
never lose sight of your dream - imagine yourself at that
executive desk, wheeling and dealing with equally successful
people. Hint: the
more detailed your visualisation, the more likely it is that
you'll know what you want, and will achieve it. color="#FF00FF">Bottom line: your visualised
dream will be a vision to keep you progressing towards your
goal.
